agenda, speakers and sponsors - and about how you can be involved!
Academic Congress
The Academic Congress expands GCDCS19 by bringing together leading post-graduate researchers -
selected through a worldwide call for papers - in a full-day session exploring the cutting edge
of data centre technology.
Research and Awards
GCDCS19 includes the CDCXA awards program and source guide, and DC Foresight collaborative
research on best practices designed to accelerate adoption and use of advanced data centre
technologies and management practices.
Advancing the development of best practices in the Canadian data centre market
Following on last year's acclaimed 'first annual' Great Canadian Data Centre Symposium, GCDCS19 is
designed to connect the Canadian (and North American, and global) data centre community around the
development of best practices that are critical to IT service delivery.
The Symposium leads off with an 'all star' plenary panel, including senior executives from technical and
business management, academica and the public sector, Canadian and US/international thought leaders. The
main part of the day consists of five 'main stage' panel discussions - each kicked off by a 5-10 minute
research-based presentation delivered by industry representatives - that address critical data centre
issues. At the same time, breakout sesions (limited to 20 attendees) provide 'deep dive' insights into
specific topics. Throughout the day, networking breaks will allow extensive opportunities tor
peer-to-peer discussions.

Advanced reserarch and the future of the data centre industry
In 2018, GCDCS first established its position as a primary venue for connecting researchers, data centre
operators, suppliers, academics and industry professionals and key user communities interested in the
most advanced and recent contributions to data centres.
In 2019, we are taking the ‘next steps’ in expanding on this position by launching a full-day Academic
Congress. The Congress is designed to open new doors on innovation and thought leadership by attracting
North America’s leading academic experts to Canada, and connecting them with the best Ontario-based
professors and post-graduate researchers, and with industry representatives who are looking to expand
the boundaries of their strategies and knowledge.
The Congress consists of five one-hour Visionary Sessions. Each session begins with a with a 30 minute
presentation delivered by an internationally recognized researcher in the field, followed by 30 minutes
of discussions and brainstorming driven by two to three panelists with continued participation from the
audience.. To ensure that there is ample opportunity for both group and individual discussions, the
congress is limited to 60 delegates (including speakers, academics and industry professionals).

Recognizing excellence in the Canadian data centre community
CDCXA is a new initiative, launched by InsightaaS, CIRC and community partner AFCOM, to recognize leadership in the Canadian data centre industry.
CDCXA began with a survey, curculated to AFCOM members, InsightaaS data centre operator contacts and 140 key suppliers,
that is designed to obtain real-world feedback supporting awards in three areas - data centre management/operators,
data centre suppliers and visionaries - and a total of 20 discrete categories. The survey also elcitis feedback on key data centre trends.
The GCDCS19 organizers will use the results in three ways:
- CDCXA Excellence Awards, presented at at gala dinner at McMaster on June 19th
- The DC Vision report detailing the results of the trend questions on the survey
- The CDCXA 100, a source guide that will be distributed in print at the Sumposium and maintaned on line for a year - until GCDCS20!
