The Great Canadian Data Centre Symposium 2019

June 19-20, 2019  -  McMaster Innovation Park, Hamilton, Ontario

Symposium

Advancing the development of best practices in the Canadian data centre market - June 20th, 2019

Building on the success of GCDCS18, this year's Great Canadian Data Centre Symposium will deliver the deepes and most comprehensive data centre event in Canada - ever.

As was the case last year, GCDCS19 will kick off with an 'all star' plenary panel, in which leaders from the public and private sector, technical and management executive ranks, academia and industry and inside and outside of Canada will come together to debate data centre strategy, user and design impartives, and future requirements and opportunities.

The balance of the day will be focused on a set of content sessions:

  • 'Main stage' panel discussions. Each of these five sessions will be introduced by an industry leader, and will draw from GCDCS19's extensive pre-event community research program. Discussions will include thought leaders representing different perspectives (buy-side, sell-side, academic, external/community experts, etc.) on key data centre issues. Session topics under consideration include:
    • Smart power: optimizing the impact of/return on power infrastructure investments
    • Balancing functionality and finance
    • Establishing and managing high-density environments
    • The physical path to cloud and hybrid IT
    • Fog and clarity: data management and process control in the era of edge computing
    • The software-defined future

  • 'Deep dive' breakout sessions. Each of these four sessions (limited to 20 attendees each) will take an in-depth view of an issue that is of specific importance to GCDCS attendees. Session topics under consideration include:
    • Enabling intelligent facilities
    • Data gravity and the Canadian public sector
    • Distributed Energy Solutions

In addition to the formal sessions, the Symposium will feature extensive networking opportunities. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the stunning McMaster Innovation Park atrium, where (the anticipated 240) delegates can network with each other, and explore the 12 tabletop displays arranged around the perimeter. And a post-event reception, scheduled (weather permitting!) for the adjacent courtyard, will give delegates a final opportunity to connect with peers and reflect on the day.
